Features

Interior/Exterior Latex Porch and Floor Paint Enamel is a non-glare, very low sheen acrylic coating which gives floors tough, long-lasting protection. The latex formula is ideal for indoor applications where low odor and fast dry are important. Durable and weather resistant, this enamel lasts for years in exterior applications. Easy water clean up.

Where to Use

Properly prepared concrete, wood, porches, basement floors, stairs, breezeways, primed metal, indoor and outdoor floors. Not for use on exterior wood decks, garage floors or other automobile parking areas.

Coverage

One gallon of paint covers up to 400 sq. ft. depending upon surface porosity. For surfaces that do require two coats, such as new concrete or badly worn areas, thin first coat only with 1 pint water per gallon of paint; apply second coat as normal.

Preparing Your Surfaces

The surface must be clean, dry and free of all loose, peeling or cracking paint. Thoroughly clean surface and remove wax and grease with an all-purpose cleaner (TSP or substitute), scouring powder, wax remover or diluted ammonia. Wire brush or scrape chipped or peeling paint. Rough or repaired wood surfaces should be sanded smooth. Prime bare, new wood with an enamel undercoater. Prime badly worn spots on old wood with a thinned first coat of Latex Porch and Floor Enamel. All rust must be removed from metal prior to painting. Prime all iron and steel with a rust inhibiting metal primer. Remove gloss from previously painted surfaces with gloss remover or by sanding. For new concrete, allow surface to cure at least 60 days before painting. Then, acid etch with muriatic acid (See etching instructions and read all cautions on etching packages). Unpainted or smooth-worn concrete should also be etched. After acid etching, apply two coats of Latex Porch and Floor Enamel - the first coat thinned with 1 pint water per gallon of paint.

Application

Stir paint thoroughly before and during use. If using more than one can of the same paint color, intermix to maintain color consistency. To increase traction on stairs and other areas where accidental slips may occur, add Valspar Anti-Skid Additive or one cup of clean, dry sand when applying the finishing coat. Stir frequently during application to avoid settling. Use a premium quality roller, polyester brush, pad applicator or airless sprayer. DO NOT USE SAND IF SPRAYING. Apply liberally over the full length of the surface to avoid lap marks. If paint is applied by airless sprayer, back roll to ensure proper penetration. Finish with long, even strokes in one direction.

WARNING!

If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
