Interior Decorative Painting Tips
Brushed Suede adds a dimension of rich texture to your home. Imagine the velvety touch of suede turning a room into a private oasis of comfort, with cushy chairs, plush rugs, warm earth tones and walls that quietly echo a feeling of luxury. Our Brushed Suede collection looks as natural next to an old mahogany table as it does in the simplicity of a modern bedroom. The muted colors and subtle texture will complement any decor. Brushed Suede is suitable for wallboard, plaster, wood, masonry or brick. Because of its delicate texture, it is best not to use it in high-traffic areas.
Here's everything you'll need for this painting technique.

| Practice Board (optional) | Valspar® Signature Colors® Faux Protective Finish (optional) |
Step 1. Protect areas where you do not wish to apply the Brushed Suede Paint by taping them off. Apply the first coat using a 1/2" nap roller. Working in 3 ft. sections, roll a large W over the surface. Next, fill in the remaining area with the roller. Finish an entire 3 ft. section before moving on to the next. When finished, roll the entire surface from ceiling to floor in one direction to even out any lap marks. Allow to dry at least 4 hours before applying second coat.
Step 2. Load a 3" or 4" brush with paint and begin applying to the surface in a series of overlapping X's. Begin with larger, 1 ft. X's and alternate with 4-6" X's.
Step 3. Continue to apply paint in overlapping X's over the entire surface. For this finish, it is important to cover the entire area with the various X patterns as this creates the subtle variations in tone. Use both the broad and narrow side of the brush.
